What counts as project value
Floor area (square feet). Building permit fees are priced per square foot of the structure (new residential $0.27/sq ft; additions/alterations $300 minimum up to 650 sq ft plus $0.27 per additional sq ft), not by construction valuation. Many other permit types are flat fees.
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: 2,400 sq ft × $0.27 = $648.00
- Florida state surcharge (DCA/DBPR): 2.5% of $648.00 = $16.20
