BuildingPermitCost shows what a building permit costs in US cities and counties, with a calculator for each place that follows the local fee formula step by step.
Permit fees are public, but they are buried in PDFs, fee ordinances and municipal codes that are hard to read and rarely explain the math. We read the official schedule for each jurisdiction, store the formula (fee tables, per-$1,000 rates, minimums, plan review, surcharges), and show the result with every step visible.
Accuracy beats coverage. A city is only published when its full building-permit formula comes from an official government source, every fee is backed by a quote from that source, and the page carries the date the schedule took effect and the date we last checked it. Places we could not verify are not shown.
What this site is not. We are not a permit office and cannot issue permits. Fees are estimates based on the official schedule linked on each page. Confirm with the permit office before applying.
