What counts as project value

Higher of your bid or the valuation table. Residential building permits are priced per square foot (living area), not by valuation. For valuation-based (commercial/multifamily) permits: 'Construction valuation shall be stated on the permit application and shall include the entire value of the construction being proposed.' If the stated value is below the current ICC Building Valuation Data table, the city may recalculate using that table.

Worked example: a $350,000 new home

  1. Building permit fee: 2,400 sq ft × $0.49 = $1,176.00
  2. Plan review fee: 2,400 sq ft × $0.15 = $360.00
  3. Technology/Equipment Surcharge: 4.5% of $1,176.00 = $52.92
  4. Total before trade permits: $1,588.92.
