What counts as project value

Higher of your bid or the valuation table. New commercial: the higher of ICC Building Valuation Data (current as of July 1) x square footage, or the applicant's stated value. Alterations/repairs: fair market value of all work. Valuation includes finish work, roofing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and contractor's profit, excluding fire systems. The schedule has a line 'Cost per square foot of new construction for 1- and 2-family dwellings' but prints no value.

Worked example: a $350,000 new home

  1. Building permit fee: $1,498.00 for the first $100,000.00 + $8.25 × 250 per $1,000.00 over = $3,560.50
  2. Plan review fee: 65% of $3,560.50 = $2,314.32
  3. Advanced Planning fee: 0.08% of $350,000.00 = $280.00
  4. Code Compliance Fee: 0.008% of $350,000.00 = $28.00
  5. Total before trade permits: $6,182.82.
