BuildingPermitCost How Lansing calculates your permit fee
The city charges a building permit fee using a fee table based on project value, with a $120.00 minimum. Plan review is a separate charge: 0% up to $3,000, 20% above that of the permit fee.

What counts as project value
ICC Building Valuation Data table. Valuation is the total value of all construction work, determined by the Manager of the Building Safety Office: square footage of the building times a unit cost factor; the most recent ICC square foot cost data is used. No permit is issued on a lesser value than determined from this table or approved by the Building Official.
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: $482.50 for the first $50,000.00 + $6.50 × 300 per $1,000.00 over = $2,432.50
- Plan review fee: 20% of $2,432.50 = $486.50
- Total before trade permits: $2,919.00.
