How DuPage County calculates your permit fee

The county charges a building permit fee using a fee table based on project value, with a $50.00 minimum. Plan review is a separate charge: its own fee table. Electrical, plumbing and mechanical work gets its own permits.

What counts as project value

Higher of your bid or the valuation table. Valuation comes from the county's cost schedule (e.g. single-family new construction $90 per sq ft of all areas within outside walls; decks/patios $10/sq ft; accessory structures $10 or $30/sq ft); if the applicant's valuation is higher, the higher figure prevails. Remodeling is based on cost of construction.

Worked example: a $350,000 new home

  1. Building permit fee: $0.00 for the first $0.00 + $10.00 × 350 per $1,000.00 over = $3,500.00
  2. Plan review fee: table value for 2,400 sq ft: $235.00 = $235.00
  3. Total before trade permits: $3,735.00.
