What counts as project value

Floor area (square feet). Residential dwelling permits are priced per square foot of building area or work area. Commercial new construction/additions (and residential structures that are not dwellings) use valuation from the most recent ICC Building Valuation Data table (or as determined by the building official) times work area, then the valuation fee table times a multiplier. Alterations/remodels/interior build-outs use project valuation or as determined by the building official.

Worked example: a $350,000 new home

  1. Building permit fee: 2,400 sq ft × $0.64 = $1,536.00
  2. Plan review fee: 2,400 sq ft × $0.32 = $768.00
  3. Total before trade permits: $2,304.00.
