How Baytown calculates your permit fee
The city charges a building permit fee using a fee table based on floor area. Electrical, plumbing and mechanical work gets its own permits.

What counts as project value
Floor area (square feet). Residential new construction is a flat fee by total enclosed finished area: 'Fees are based on enclosed finished area.' Commercial permits use a table on 'Improvement Value'; the page does not say how improvement value is determined.
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: table value for 2,400 sq ft: $1,900.00 = $1,900.00
- Total before trade permits: $1,900.00.
