How Lafayette calculates your permit fee
The city charges a building permit fee using $3.50 per $1,000 of project value, with a $35.00 minimum. Plan review is a separate charge: a flat $50.00. Electrical, plumbing and mechanical work gets its own permits.
The fee table
Residential new, renovation, addition (and demolition)
$3.50 per $1,000 of project value, with a $35.00 minimum.
Commercial new, renovation, addition (and demolition)
$5.00 per $1,000 of project value, with a $100.00 minimum.
What counts as project value
Your contract or bid price. Building fees are charged 'per $1000 fair market value of improvement'. The schedule does not say how fair market value is determined (applicant estimate vs. a table).
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: $350,000.00 ÷ 1,000 × $3.50 = $1,225.00
- Plan review fee: flat = $50.00
- Total before trade permits: $1,275.00.
