What counts as project value
Floor area (square feet). Building permit fees are charged per square foot (new single family/duplex and additions per sq ft of the work; alterations/repairs to single family/duplex per total square footage of the structure; other occupancies per sq ft of gross area in two tiers). No valuation table is used for the main building permit.
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: 2,400 sq ft × $0.99 = $2,364.00
- Application fee: fixed = $66.69
- RER surcharge: 7.5% of $2,364.00 = $177.30
- State surcharge, Building Construction Standards (DBPR, s. 553.72 F.S.): 1% of $2,364.00 = $23.64
- State surcharge, Building Code Administrators and Inspectors (s. 468.631 F.S.): 1.5% of $2,364.00 = $35.46
- Total before trade permits: $2,667.09.
