Surcharges
- Training and education fee: $0.30 per $1,000 of value
- Board of Rules & Appeals (BORA) fee: $0.52 per $1,000 of value, minimum $2.00
- FBC surcharge (state, DCA): 1% of the permit fee, minimum $2.00
- Building Permit Certification Surcharge (DBPR): 1.5% of the permit fee, minimum $2.00
What counts as project value
Floor area (square feet). New construction and additions are priced by square-foot tables that include all disciplines (building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing; roof permit extra). Single-family and multi-family remodels/alterations use a table by value of work; the schedule refers to 'estimated cost' and to value 'in labor and material as determined by the Building Official'. Surcharges (BORA, training) are per $1,000 of cost of construction.
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: table value for 2,400 sq ft: $6,139.00 = $6,139.00
- Training and education fee: $350,000.00 ÷ 1,000 × $0.30 = $105.00
- Board of Rules & Appeals (BORA) fee: $350,000.00 ÷ 1,000 × $0.52 = $182.00
- FBC surcharge (state, DCA): 1% of $6,139.00 = $61.39
- Building Permit Certification Surcharge (DBPR): 1.5% of $6,139.00 = $92.09
- Total before trade permits: $6,579.48.
