How Waterbury calculates your permit fee
The city charges a building permit fee using a fee table based on project value. Electrical, plumbing and mechanical work gets its own permits.
The fee table
| Project value | Fee |
|---|---|
| $1 – $1,000 | $50.00 |
| Over $1,000 | $50.00 for the first $1,000 + $25.00 per additional $1,000 |
Added to every matching permit
- Certificate of Occupancy/Approval: a flat $50.00 (All projects)
Surcharges
- State of Connecticut fee: $0.26 per $1,000 of value
What counts as project value
Your contract or bid price. Fees are based on the total estimated cost of the work including all parts, materials and labor.
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: $50.00 for the first $1,000.00 + $25.00 × 349 per $1,000.00 over = $8,775.00
- Certificate of Occupancy/Approval: flat fee = $50.00
- State of Connecticut fee: $350,000.00 ÷ 1,000 × $0.26 = $91.00
- Total before trade permits: $8,916.00.
