How New Britain calculates your permit fee
The city charges a building permit fee using a fee table based on project value, with a $35.00 minimum. Electrical, plumbing and mechanical work gets its own permits.
The fee table
| Project value | Fee |
|---|---|
| $1 – $1,000 | $35.00 |
| $1,001 – $2,000 | $35.00 for the first $1,000 + $25.00 per additional $1,000 or fraction |
| Over $2,000 | $60.00 for the first $2,000 + $15.00 per additional $1,000 or fraction |
What counts as project value
Your contract or bid price. 'Building Permit Fees (also electrical, plumbing, mechanical permits) are based on cost of the work being done.'
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: $60.00 for the first $2,000.00 + $15.00 × 348 per $1,000.00 over = $5,280.00
- Total before trade permits: $5,280.00.
