The city charges a building permit fee using a fee table based on project value, with a $100.00 minimum.

What counts as project value
ICC Building Valuation Data table. City guide: 'For rehabilitation, alteration and demolition, the value is provided by the applicant. For new construction, the City utilizes ICC Building valuation data to determine the value.'
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: $470.00 for the first $50,000.00 + $7.00 × 300 per $1,000.00 over = $2,570.00
- State levy (R.I. Gen. Laws § 23-27.3-108.2(c)(1)), residential: 0.2% of $350,000.00 → maximum $100.00 = $100.00
- Total before trade permits: $2,670.00.
