How Malden calculates your permit fee
The city charges a building permit fee using $13.00 per $1,000 of project value, with a $40.00 minimum. Electrical, plumbing and mechanical work gets its own permits.
The fee table
Single- and two-family: new, additions, alterations, repairs
$13.00 per $1,000 of project value, with a $40.00 minimum.
Three-family and above, including commercial
$16.00 per $1,000 of project value, with a $75.00 minimum.
Added to every matching permit
- Certificate of Occupancy, single-family dwelling: a flat $75.00 (Residential · new construction)
What counts as project value
Your contract or bid price. Fees are per $1,000 of 'estimated cost of construction'; the page does not say how the estimate is verified.
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: $350,000.00 ÷ 1,000 × $13.00 = $4,550.00
- Certificate of Occupancy, single-family dwelling: flat fee = $75.00
- Total before trade permits: $4,625.00.
