BuildingPermitCost How Missoula calculates your permit fee
The city charges a building permit fee using a fee table based on project value, with a $43.00 minimum. Plan review is a separate charge: 30% of the permit fee. Electrical, plumbing and mechanical work gets its own permits.

What counts as project value
Local valuation table. Valuation is computed from the 'Building Valuation Data' (Building Standards Jan/Feb 1998) adopted by ordinance; for houses/duplexes the city publishes per-sq-ft costs: dwelling $46.85, unfinished basement $10.11, attached garage $16.99, carport $11.53, detached garage $16.99, pole building $9.85. Publicly bid projects over $50,000 may use the bid value; remodels use an estimated job cost.
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: $1,869.00 for the first $100,000.00 + $11.73 × 250 per $1,000.00 over = $4,801.50
- Plan review fee: 30% of $4,801.50 = $1,441.00
- Technology fee: 5% of $6,242.50 = $312.13
- Total before trade permits: $6,554.63.
