BuildingPermitCost How Great Falls calculates your permit fee
The city charges a building permit fee using a fee table based on project value, with a $67.62 minimum. Plan review is a separate charge: 50% of the permit fee. Electrical, plumbing and mechanical work gets its own permits.

What counts as project value
Higher of your bid or the valuation table. Valuation is the higher of the applicant's stated value (total bid price) or the ICC Building Valuation Data table. The city links the 2023 and 2024 ICC BVD tables.
Worked example: a $350,000 new home
- Building permit fee: $1,178.30 for the first $100,000.00 + $6.90 × 250 per $1,000.00 over = $2,903.30
- Plan review fee: 50% of $2,903.30 = $1,451.65
- Total before trade permits: $4,354.95.

Will fees go up?
The schedule provides for a 2.5% adjustment each July 1. Authorized 2011 unless the Building Fund exceeds $600,000; whether applied since the 10/05/2023 schedule is unverified.
