Totals include the building permit, plan review and fees the schedule requires for that project; "n/a" means the schedule has no formula for it, or can be read two ways. Open each place for the full math and sources. Fees are estimates based on the official schedules. Confirm with the permit office before applying. Separate electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire, impact, utility and school fees are usually not included unless they are listed. BuildingPermitCost is not a government permit office, and this is not legal advice.
Why the same project costs different amounts
Each city or county writes its own fee schedule. Most charge from a fee table based on project value, some price by floor area, and many add plan review and state surcharges on top. Places also value projects differently: some use your contract price, others a published valuation table, which can change the total more than the fee rate itself.
